Are Longer Workouts Better for Fat Loss?

I used to believe that if you just put more hours in the gym that it would SPEED UP weight loss. To the uneducated person, it makes sense… the more minutes you spend working out.. the more calories you burn.. The more weight you lose. Right?

Wrong.

Sometimes working out for TOO LONG can start to produce diminishing results. Meaning, adding that extra 20-30 minutes to your 1-hour intense workout just to get some extra calorie burn actually might not be helping at all. There’s a point when your body simply stops responding due to fatigue, stress, and other factors.

So how long should workouts be?

Changing up your fitness routine is not only a great way to prevent boredom, but it also can break a fitness plateau!

My answer: IT DEPENDS.

How long your workouts depend on so many things, such as:

  • Your goals
  • Your lifestyle
  • Your intensity in the workouts
  • What you can do consistently
  • Your energy levels
  • And so many other factors

I know you’re busy so I’m going to cut to the chase.

  • It does not matter how long you workout. You can get results with 10 minute workouts or 100 minute workouts.
  • Ultimately, you have to find that “sweet spot” that you can do CONSISTENTLY for the LONG-term.
  • Instead of focusing on DURATION, focus on the TYPE OF TRAINING. In other words, HOW you workout matters more than how much TIME you spend doing it.

You don’t need to do longer workouts - you just have to workout SMARTER with the 15, 30, or 45 minutes you have to do it!
